Kerkerkruip Let's Play #1

Partly inspired by a discussion I had last weekend with someone who loved watching "let's play" videos, and partly by a recent roguelike radio episode on such videos, I have decided to start recording such videos of me playing Kerkerkruip. You'll see the game, and you'll hear me explaining what I do and why. In later episodes, I might also discuss the design thoughts in some more depth.

Here is episode 1. It should open in HD, but if it doesn't, please set it to HD, or you won't be able to read the text.

Let me know what you think, and if anything can be improved!

(I've already recorded a second episode, but something went wrong with the video quality when I uploaded it to Youtube. I might not be able to get it up before I leave on a week of vacation tomorrow.)

  1. Well done! That was pretty fun. But the glass cannon seems pretty overpowered, such that the game got significantly less interesting once you had it: it seemed like shooting the cannon was always the no-brainer action to take.

    1. We got somewhat lucky -- the glass cannon lowers your health considerable and also gives all enemies a +3 attack bonus against you. So we were in more danger than might have been apparent. But I also agree with you, and one of the first things I did after recording this video was to lower the damage of the glass cannon. I'll be keeping an eye on it in further play sessions!

  2. You mentioned that throwing grenades up is harder than throwing them horizontally. Is it easier to throw them down? Why not dig all the way until you're above Bodmall before throwing the grenade?

    1. Yes, it is quite a bit easier to throw them down. But digging a tunnel takes you into the room, so I'd have to retreat, which would have been dangerous as well.
